Senior portraits mark a milestone, and the location is half the story. The right backdrop does more than look good. It says something about who you are. Murfreesboro has a lot to work with, from historic downtown buildings to open fields and trails. Here are five of my favorite spots for senior photos in Murfreesboro, plus one bonus for new drivers.
01. Rutherford County Courthouse
Murfreesboro’s history goes back to the Civil War. The city was once Tennessee’s state capitol, and today it’s home to the area’s historic government buildings. The Rutherford County Courthouse is a strong choice if you want that history in your portraits.

02.Sinking Creek Farm
Tennessee is known for beautiful spring and fall seasons, and Sinking Creek Farm is within a 30-minute drive of Murfreesboro. It’s an easy session to plan, and it breathes life into a photograph. The combination of Tennessee landscape and rustic vehicles spoke volumes about one senior’s personality.

03.Stones River Battlefield
Some people like the country. Others find that prairie truly speaks to them when the are being photographed. Sometimes you have to consider accessibility too. Stones River Battlefield brings it all together. Open fields, forested areas and paved trails give you iconic scenes with natural light, all in one place.

04. Overall Street Trailhead
One of my seniors loves the water and anything that involves nature. She wanted environmental beauty that complemented her wardrobe, and the Overall Street Trailhead delivered. It’s a hidden gem for late spring and early summer sessions. The area is highly accessible, with a blend of foliage that flatters seasonal fashion.
Best time of day: Late Afternoon/Early evening · Best outfits: Sun Dresses/Skirts/Shorts &Camisole· Insider tip: During dryer parts of the year, parts of the creek bed are exposed. These make the best platforms for poses surrounded by a calm stream!
05. Barfield Crescent Park
Sometimes it feels like you have to drive for miles to find the perfect spot for senior photos. Once you get there all the vegetation looks like it hasn't been taken care of for years. Barfield Crescent Park is a superb spot for senior portraits with lively surroundings. It’s a vast venue with well-maintained grass fields and towering trees. Just off Veterans Parkway, this park is worth the drive from any part of Murfreesboro.
Best time of day: Late Afternoon/Early Evening · Best outfits: Neutral Tops/Maxi Skirts/Sundresses· Insider tip: Get those stretches in because this space is wide open for getting shots with motion along with traditional poses. Shoes are optional in some areas!
Bonus: RCJC Parking Garage

Getting a driver’s license is at the top of a lot of seniors’ minds. If that’s you, the RCJC Parking Garage in downtown Murfreesboro is the place to celebrate it. There’s plenty of room for you and your first vehicle, and the Murfreesboro square is only a 5-minute walk away if you want more portraits.
